Magical Traditions

Arcane Magic, as I see it

I don't think there exists a tradition that can be called Wizardry really. It doesn't fit this model that we've come up with for traditions. It was something I threw in the first game to appease some desire I felt there was for non-specialized spellcasters. I don't think it's needed. Here's the breakdown of human magical traditions as I see them currently:

• Artisans
  • Artisans were originally included to give Loretan the feel that the best craftsmen were workers of magics. I don't think this is needed when you have the ability to use the crafting rules from the world of warcraft book to give some magical or semi-magical abilities to non-casters.
• Biomancers
  • We talked about this on 7/5/7, Biomancers are the creators of Chimeras; eugenicists. They view the crafting of the living form as the ultimate expression of art.
• Black Magic
  • The need for a new name is a point well made. Black mages seek to embrace the tools of magic for use in battle and to better themselves then those who just dabble in the art of destruction, they seek out and tap the Dark Storm, an entity that lives beyond the veil.
• Geomancers
  • The Imperial magical tradition is Geomancy in the magics of numerology, symbols and angles, literally geometric magics.
• Mentalism
  • The understanding of how the mind works and the ways that is can be controlled and manipulated. Mentalists seek to shape the minds of those around them, seeing a dichotomy between those who have the power and the right to choose for themselves and those who exist merely as pawns of those with power.
• Seekers
  • Those who seek to use magic to find out more about the world and explore. The safest and most unassuming of the traditions, this tradition also studies the most about magic itself, and the ways to use it in protections and unraveling of enemy spells. In this regard, they serve as a mixture of the Abjurer and Diviner idea: those who are best at understanding magic are best at defending against it.
• Shadow Magic
  • Illusionists and deceivers, Shadow mages seek to move the world like a puppet show, never revealing their true ability to impact the world around them, or impacting the world under a false name. They know that understanding something gives you control over it, and that seeing is never believing. In Loretan, they function as a spy council and masters of the underworld.
• Warlocks
  • As your idea.
